British Literature of the Middle Ages

A Short Course based on our popular "Middle Ages Literature" Year-Long Course

Designed for students in the Eastern/Southern Hemispheres based on School Year & Time Zone

Description:

"A Taste of the Middle Ages"  is a Charlotte Mason-inspired, 15 week, online literature course for middle-to-high school students in which British literature of (and themes regarding) the Middle Ages will be read and discussed.  A variety of poetry, and plays (early dramas) of the period will be included in the course, as well as readings covering Arthurian mythology and selections illuminating the history of literature in England during the Middle Ages period. This course is an abbreviated version of our year-long "Middle Ages Literature" course and is created to meet the needs of those in the Southern and Eastern Hemispheres (New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Asia/Pacific) based on the school calendar in those locations and time zones.

Presented by CM Live! the class will meet live (online) once weekly for an instructor-facilitated webinar and discussions of the assigned readings.  Online discussion forums will be available in between live class meetings for the purpose of providing additional peer-to-peer interactions regarding the assigned readings.

The goal of the class is to provide an engaging, guided format for students to share their thoughts and insights with the instructor and peers regarding the assigned readings. The abbreviated course qualifies for a  .5  high school level credit in British Literature.

This course requires  writing in the form of a weekly online narration (ala Charlotte Mason) kept in the student's online journal. In addition, weekly discussion prompts will be posted based on the assigned readings to which students are required to submit a response.

The Online Instructor will offer other weekly learning opportunities in the form of internet challenges, as well as fun craft or food-oriented projects, for those interested in pursuing further, their study of the Middle Ages. This course includes a semester project  which involves a multi-media presentation for the class.

Prerequisites & Requirements:

Students should be reading independently at a middle-to-high school level. Students will need access to a computer with an internet connection. Students should be able to type so that they can participate in the live chat and online journal portions of the class. Students are required to purchase a headset with microphone in order to participate in audio discussions.
